Offset. The shank shall be bent to offset the handle with a minimum knuckle
clearance as indicated by dimension F in table I.
Shank insertion. When the shank is inserted into the handle, the connection shall
be reinforced by a ferrule with a smoothly finished through rivet. The con-
nection shall be permanent and secure.
Handle insertion. When the handle is inserted into the integral shank socket
extension, the connection shall be secured by a smoothly finished through rivet.
Blade attachment. The blade shall be securely attached to the shank with screws
or bolts and nuts. The blade shall be easily removable for the purpose of
resharpening or replacement.
Handle. The handle shall have a round or oval cross section shaped to provide a
secure comfortable handhold. The handle shall be smoothly finished and protected
with a durable coating of paint, enamel, lacquer or varnish.
Metal finish. All metal surfaces shall be protected with a durable coating of
paint, varnish, enamel or lacquer. The blade cutting edge shall be coated with
clear varnish or lacquer.
Identification. The grass hook shall be permanently and legibly marked with the
manufacturer's trademark or name.
Shank test. The blade shall be fixed and 6-pounds shall be applied to the handle
for 30 seconds. The shank shall not have a permanent set of more than 1/8 inch.
Workmanship. The grass hook shall be free from defects which will impair dura-
bility or serviceability.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials
in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. The preservation, packaging,
packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.

is intended to cover the types normally procured to meet Federal requirements.
