COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SHEARS; PRUNING, HAND (ONE HAND OPERATED)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description (CID) as a replacement for Type I, grade
A , size 9 and type II, grade B, size 8 of GGG-S-284 for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description covers pruning shears operated by one hand, suitable for pruning shrubbery.
2. CLASSIFICATION
2.1 Classification. The shears shall be of the following types, as specified (see 7.2):
Type I- Hook jaws
Type II- Straight jaws with blade and anvil
3.1 Blade. The cutting blade shall be manufactured from high carbon or alloy steel which has been heat treated to a Rockwell C hardness of 40 to 55 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18. The cutting blade shall be designed to prevent vegetation debris buildup between the hook and blade or anvil and blade which will cause interference in the operation of the shears. Cutting edges shall have ground and polished keen cutting edge free of nicks, and shall be capable of being resharpened. A notched edge, designed to hold branches, may be provided at the manufacturer’s option
