3.3 Type II, Lawn Rake. Lawn rakes shall be suitable for
raking grass clippings, leaves, twigs, and litter from lawns without injury to
the grass or roots.
The type II, composition S (steel tines) rakes shall have flexible heads
consisting of strips of flat spring steel with the bent end forming the head
and tines, a handle, and a ferrule or socket suitable for securing the head to
the handle. The rake head may consist of a plastic resin body with spring steel
tines. Type II, composition P (plastic tines) rakes shall be similar except the
entire rake head’ shall be made from plastic. The plastic shall be a minimum of
95 percent recycled material. The ferrule or socket shall have a hole suitable
for securing the handle by means of a common rivet, screw, or bolt with nut.
The handle shall fit tightly within the ferrule or socket.
3.3.1 . Class A, Radial head, Composition S. The class A, composition S rake
shall be similar to figure 4. The tines forming the head shall be separated at
the raking end, grouped together and securely fastened to a steel ferrule at
the handle end. Ferrule shall extend over the handle. The head of the rake
shall have a steel spreader bar attached to the tines in a fixed position at
all times. The spreader bar shall be located between the tips of the tines and
the ferrule. The head shall measure a minimum of 17 inches (43.2 cm) in width
and have a minimum of 18 tines. The rake handle shall be a minimum of 42 inches
(1.06 m) in length.
